Sergio Phillips is ranked as the 51st best offensive guard in the class of 2013, and San Diego State has been pushing hard to get the talented lineman to join their recruiting class.

While Phillips is listed as a guard, he feels that he will play another position in college.

"I'm probably a center at the next level," said Phillips.

How has Phillips been preparing for his transition to center?

"This summer, I'm working on snapping the ball because that's what most college coaches tell me I have to do," said Phillips. "I try to get 50 snaps in every day. My snaps are getting better and better every day."

What's been the biggest snag in Phillips' transition to center?

"I can snap with the quarterback under center, but I need to work on my snaps from the shotgun," stated Phillips.

As a junior, Phillips racked up 88 pancake blocks. However, he isn't completely satisfied with how his junior year went.

"I want to win the state championship next season. For myself, I'm just trying to come off the ball more quickly, use my hips and put the defender on his back the whole game," said Phillips.

The impressive lineman appears to be interested in San Diego State.

"It's in a great city and they have great coaches," Phillips said.

"I talked to SDSU three weeks ago. I'm going to call them back and set up an unofficial visit with them," said Phillips. "The visit will probably be in July."

Phillips has one goal for his visit.

"On the visit, I really want to see if I can relate with the coaches and build a bond with them," stated Phillips.

Phillips just has one requirement for his future school.

"In a school, I just really want them to have my major, which is Criminal Justice," said Phillips.

Luckily, San Diego State offers a Criminal Justice degree.

Phillips is also happy with how excited SDSU fans appear to be at potentially having the three-star lineman in an Aztec uniform.

"It feels great when fans show me love on Twitter. It makes me feel welcome," said Phillips.

The 6-foot-3 and 300-pound offensive lineman holds offers from San Diego State, Memphis, New Mexico and New Mexico State. He will also be attending LSU camp and possibly Stanford camp.

As for when Phillips will make his final decision?

"There's definitely a possibility that I make my decision before the school year starts," said Phillips.
