DE/OLB Dakota Turner out of Miliani (HI) became the third commitment for San Diego State in the 2013 class last night.

"I called coach [Kevin] McGarry and he was really excited and wouldn't stop saying how excited he is," Turner said. "Wants me to help him bring in more recruits from Hawaii. We are going to get some Hawaii boys out to the school."

The three-star prospect felt the time was right to make his commitment.

"I weighed the pros and cons," Turner said. "I have family out there, it's close to home, has everything you could ask for in a school, academics, the campus is beautiful, great business program and that's what I want to major in. everything you could ask for."

"I just wanted to get it off my back and stop having to worry," Have a great school in my hands and just didn't want to wait any longer so I could focus on winning a state championship.

Turner held other offers from Army and Weber state. There has been talk of possible offers from Oregon and Washington after attending their camps but each wanted to see more from Turner during the beginning of the season.

The Aztecs offered something those top-tier programs cannot.

"There program and the coaches they got," Turner said. "I have a close relationship with some of the coaches throughout the recruiting process. The coaches were real and true to me. It stands out when they are honest."

"Coach was always telling me to choose a school that loves you and we love you so be an Aztec," Turner said.

How solid is his verbal to San Diego State?

"If another school offers then ill maybe make a visit out there but I'm going to stick to my word right now with San Diego State," Turner said.

Last season Turner had 52 tackles (22 for loss), 8 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 3 recovered fumbles and a touchdown.

How does the 6-foot-3 and 255-pound pass rusher fit within the Aztec defense?

"When I went on my unofficial visit after camp coach McGarry and I watched some film of their team and scheme," Turner said. "Saw where I would fit into their defense. They showed me outside linebacker and after seeing outside linebacker it's just like me right there. I can see myself fitting in."

With the Turner playing outside linebacker, he'll be working with his coaches on his coverage skills this season.

What does Turner plan on bring with him to the collegiate football field?

"Great athlete, a leader and will compete wherever they put me," Turner said. "I'm really excited about that."

The Aztecs moved to 83rd overall in the Scout Football Team Recruiting Rankings.
