QB situation not getting better

The Cardinals quarterback controversy made no progress during the team’s second preseason game against the
Kansas City Chiefs
. The inauspicious play of
Kevin Kolb
continued and
John Skelton
didn’t fare much better. Of course, this is just the preseason, but the state of the Arizona offense isn’t exactly promising at this point.
Kolb completed just 1-of-5 passes for 21 yards in Kansas City and was sacked once. Meanwhile, Skelton finished 3-of-6 for 35 yards and threw a bad interception. Skelton was also sacked on one occasion – leading to another area of concern – the Cardinals seemingly always underperforming offensive line.
Following the retirement of
Kurt Warner
, Cardinal fans have painful memories of lackluster play at the most important position on the field and this year is shaping up no different. Kolb remains the starter by default but anyone who feels comfortable with him leading the team’s offense might be relegating to wishful thinking.
While it would be a significant long-shot for either
Richard Bartel
or
Ryan Lindley
to see the field in the regular season, it can’t be completely ruled out. Lindley is a raw prospect with potential while Bartel has done enough to stick around the Cardinals organization for a couple of years now.
However, the idea of one of them being thrust into action would more than likely stem from continued poor play by Kolb and Skelton. And if that scenario pans out, all signs would point to another disappointing season in the desert.
