With San Diego State implementing a 3-3-5 formation on defense the past few years, finding defensive backs that fit the system has become a key in recruiting. Jerrell Jackson and Maurice McKnight are on board for the 2014 recruiting class, and West Covina HS athlete Sidney Jones could join them in the future.

Jones sports offers from San Diego State, San Jose State, and New Mexico State along with interest from Nevada and Colorado.

"(SDSU) told me they would love to have me at their school. They said to keep us in your thoughts and keep us in your options," Jones said. "I talk with Coach McGarry, he's a really good guy and seems like a cool coach. He's a good person to be around."

The Aztecs became the first school to offer Jones in late April, "I'm glad they recognized my talent. They were the first, so that means a lot to me."

Jones made the trek south in early May to check out the San Diego State campus on Warrior Day. "I went to the junior day they had. The campus was cool, everything was cool. I like it down there."

"I'm thinking about going to San Jose State this month for an unofficial."

What's the key on the field for Jones?

"My speed and my athleticism," Jones told me. "I need to work on picking up extra weight and getting bigger. I've been in the weight room, working on speed and conditioning, mastering my plays and my assignments and what I need to do on the field."

Jones doesn't look to be making a decision very soon, but he knows what he's looking for in a school.

"All the stuff is in play, playing time, just everything," Jones said. "I think I'll decide on signing day, I'm gonna wait till signing day."
